No. 15 Aggies Split First Day Of NorCal Invite

PLEASANT HILL, Calif. - Senior Carlos Martinez and sophomore Colin Hicks each scored three goals to lead 15th-ranked UC Davis to a 10-6 upset of 11th-ranked UC San Diego in the second round of the prestigious NorCal Invitational men's water polo tournament, held at Diablo Valley College on Saturday. The Aggies lost to No. 4 Stanford by a 13-5 in the opening round.

UC Davis, which moves to 7-2 for the year, will face Long Beach State at noon at the DVC site. The tournament is held jointly at Cal's Spieker Aquatics Center and at DVC. The Aggies are assisting as site hosts in Pleasant Hill.

Senior lefty Matt Richardson added two goals while Ryan Hagens and Walter Eggert each scored one in the win over the Tritons. Junior Kevin Peat recorded seven saves over UCSD.

In Saturday's earlier game, reigning Western Water Polo Association Player of the Week Aaron Salit scored two goals. Hicks matched that total with freshman Teddy Nicholson accounting for the fifth tally in the loss to the Cardinal. Peat saved 13 shots against Stanford.

With the win over UCSD, UC Davis is now 6-0 in games against WWPA members.
