DAVIS, Calif. - Redshirt freshman quarterback Randy Wright threw for 244 yards and three touchdowns, Sean Creadick and Tom Hemmingsen each caught a pair of scores, and linebacker Dozie Amajoyi helped lead the defense with seven tackles, as the UC Davis football team hosted its annual Blue-Gold Scrimmage on Friday night at Aggie Stadium.
The intrasquad scrimmage is the traditional end of the Aggies' preseason camp with UC Davis now turning its attention to its opener next weekend at Cal. Sean Kelley helped highlight the special teams' efforts, making two field goals including a 49-yarder during the first half. He added a 33-yard field goal at the end of the game.
Backup quarterbacks Austin Heyworth and Sean Maraz each completed five passes, including one each for a score, throwing for 81 and 56 yards, respectively. Creadick, who highlighted his night with an 82-yard touchdown pass from Wright in the second quarter, finished with four catches for 135 yards while Hemmingsen finished with five grabs for 87 yards. He scored on plays of 33 and 38 yards.
Four players on the defense posted at least five tackles including tackle Andrew Benjamin who had six stops including a sack. Tackle Victor Lee and end Bobby Erskine also had sacks with the defense posting 9.0 TFL's overall. Benjamin finished with six tackles while linebackers Jordan Glass and Marshall Congdon each had five.
Cornerbacks Jonathan Calhoun and Ryan Troy, along with linebacker Dominic Greco each had interceptions to help highlight defensive efforts as well. Freshman Jabari Howard had two of the defense's three pass breakups.
"The offense moved the ball a little bit and scored some points (and) the defense made some plays," said Biggs. "Sean (Kelley) kicked some field goals and PAT's and I thought we punted well."
"We got everything we wanted," he said. "We got a lot looks on special teams, everybody got to play, we had no injuries and there were some good things that happened out there."
Josh Reese rushed for 30 yards and Brandon Tucker pickd up 21 with the Aggies gaining 80 yards on the ground overall.
The Aggies will open the 2010 season next Saturday at Cal at 1 p.m., the first meeting between the programs in 71 years. The game will be aired on KHTK (1140 AM), KDVS (90.3 FM) and Comcast SportsNet California.
