Wilright Finishes Racing At USA Outdoor Championships

June 25, 2010

DES MOINES, Iowa - UC Davis' Alex Wilright did not advance in the 400-meter hurdles on Friday at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Drake Stadium after being disqualified in his semifinal heat, negating a school-record time.

Wilright finished fourth in his race - the top four advanced to Saturday's final - with an unofficial time of 50.26 seconds but was later disqualified for a trail leg violation. His time, if allowed, would've lowered his school record from the 50.47 achieved during the spring at the Sun Angel Classic at Arizona State.

Wilright, who moved into Friday's semifinal after a fast 50.48 on Thursday, advanced to the USA Outdoor Championships semi for the second straight year.

Olympic bronze medalist Bershawn Jackson had the fastest time on Friday in 48.36 while Johnny Dutch of South Carolina won Wilright's heat in 49.69.

Aggie freshman Jeffery Campbell, also racing in UC Davis uniform on Friday, clipped an early hurdle and fell during his 400 hurdles preliminary race at the USA Outdoor Junior Championships - also at Drake Stadium - but got up to finish with a time of 59.74.

On Thursday night, volunteer assistant coach and former Aggie standout Kim Conley ran in the 10,000, finishing 14th in 34:16.91 while racing for Asics Aggie Racing Club.
