Seniors Put Scare Into No. 15 Cardinal

STANFORD, Calif. - Senior attacker Britt Farquharson scored a career-high six goals while senior midfielder Molly Lapolla added three goals and a game-high four assists to help UC Davis stage a heroic second-half comeback in a 17-14 loss to No. 15 Stanford during Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's lacrosse action at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium Sunday.

The Aggies move to 10-5 for the season, with a 3-3 record in the MPSF. The Cardinal improve to 11-5 overall and clinch second place in the conference with a 5-1 mark.

UC Davis surrendered seven unanswered goals, faced a 13-5 deficit at halftime, then gave up the first goal of the second half before tallying nine of the last 12 goals in the contest. Five of Farquharson's goals came in the final 23 minutes of play. Lapolla had two goals and the entirety of her assists -- all to Farquharson -- in the comeback stretch.

A third Aggie senior, defender Molly Peterson, posted five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Juniors Rachael Martinez and Lauren Boyle also had three steals for UC Davis.

Junior Gina Hoffmire added three goals for the Aggies, while junior Christina Corsa had two. Hoffmire hit her first goal on a power play midway in the first, netted her second with 2:59 before the halftime break to cut the Stanford lead to 11-5, then converted a short-handed, eight-meter attempt in the 37th minute to start her team's comeback. Corsa scored on an assist from Peterson with 9:07 left in the first, then added her second with 12 minutes to go in the second.

Senior Dana Lindsay led Stanford with four goals. Senior attacker Claire Hubbard and junior midfielder Sarah Flynn chipped in hat tricks. Hubbard recored two goals and two assists in the Cardinal's 7-0 start.

The Aggies returns to action in the MPSF tournament at Denver from April 29-May 1. With three teams -- UC Davis, Oregon and California -- each sporting 3-3 conference records, the league office will announce the No. 3 through No. 5 seeds on Monday.
