Program Vets Leads Aggies To 18-3 Win

April 10, 2010

Final Stats

DENVER, Colo. - Junior midfielder Gina Hoffmire scored five goals with two assists, while senior Molly Lapolla added a hat trick and two assists, leading UC Davis to a dominating 18-3 win over Regis University in non-conference women's lacrosse action Saturday.

The Aggies improve to 8-3 overall. The Rangers, one of a handful of Division II independents in the Mile High State, fall to 2-6.

In addition to the two UC Davis scoring leaders, Molly Peterson, Hannah Mirza, Kristi Irgens and Britt Farquharson each chipped in two goals. Freshman Elizabeth Datino and Stephanie Guercio had the balance of the goals. Peterson also recorded four ground balls and three draw controls. Also aiding the defensive corps was Rachael Martinez, who won two ground balls and two caused turnovers; and Vannessa Jamison, who tallied three ground balls, two draw controls and two steals.

Although it took almost 17 minutes before getting their second goal, the Aggies never trailed in the contest, putting up five goals in the final 8:30 of the first half to hold a 9-1 lead at the break. Lapolla and RU's Kelsi Goings traded goals immediately after the second-half draw, then Lapolla assisted Farquharson to start a run of four unanswered during the next five minutes of play.

UC Davis outshot its host by a 36-9 margin, including 21-3 in the second half. The Aggies also held the edge in draw controls (13-9) while committing just seven turnovers. Furthemore, Regis failed to clear the ball from its defensive third to the attacking third on eight tries after the break.

Friday's conference game at Denver and Saturday's tilt at Regis represented a home crowd for Datino, Irgens and freshman Molly Carstensen, the latter of whom tallied two steals and a ground ball.

UC Davis returns to action for a non-conference game against Saint Mary's on Thursday at 4 p.m.
