Cal-Nevada Championships Live Results

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Melanise Chapman tied a UC Davis record by finishing her prelim heat of the 100-meter dash in 11.86 seconds while posting the fastest time of the day at the Cal-Nevada Championships and leading nine Aggies into finals on Sunday at the track and field meet at UCLA.

Chapman, who also moved into the No. 4 position at UC Davis in the 200 after finishing eighth overall in 24.67, will race in finals of both events on Sunday. The Aggie men sent five competitors from prelims into finals during Saturday's competition while the women have four.

Chapman tied the school record in the 100 set by Nicole Theus in 2008.

For the Aggie men, Polly Gnepa (14.03) and Jazz Trice (14.27) finished first and third, respectively, in the 110 high hurdles prelims while Matt Council advanced in the 400 after finishing fifth in 47.96, a time that also puts him No. 4 all-time at UC Davis.

Alex Wilright (52.49) and Thomas Phillips (52.74) were second and fourth, respectively, in the 400 hurdles as they try to claim the Aggies' third straight state championship in the event on Sunday.

For the women, Sirena Williams, a finalist in the 100 hurdles last year, advanced with the fastest time on Saturday. She was timed in 13.59 seconds, just off her school record of 13.50. Lauren Wallace posted a PR in the 800, finishing in 2:12.87 to place fifth in the prelims and also advance to the finals.

Mina Mohamadi will join Chapman in the 100 final after taking seventh in the preliminaries at 12.07, a time that vaults her to No. 6 on the Aggies' top-10 list.

Finals were held in several field events during the first day of competition. Tessa Fraser (12-1.50) tied for seventh in the pole vault and Ross Tate (6-4.75) tied for eighth in the high jump, each of them scoring points for UC Davis.

Team standings were not available. The meet concludes on Sunday.
