UC Davis season stats
KOHALA COAST, Hawaii - Junior Tim Honeycutt posted a team-best 3-under 69 on Friday while Austin Graham had a 71 as the UC Davis men's golf team posted its strongest round of the Mauna Lani Invitational, placing 16th in a strong field to open the spring season.
The Aggies fired a 4-over 292, its best round of the 54-hole tournament by 14 strokes, finishing just one shot back of Colorado and four back of 14th-place TCU. Andrew Haggen tied for 29th to lead UC Davis while Graham tied for 54th, Honeycutt tied for 63rd, Brent Booth tied for 77th and Tyler Raber tied for 95th.
Second-ranked Stanford rallied with a final-round 286 to win the 22-team event at 2-over 866. The Cardinal beat No. 29 Oregon and No. 12 Washington by three shots with eighth-ranked Texas and No. 1 Oklahoma State rounding out the top five. Thirteen teams ranked in the top 30 made up the field including six in the top 10.
Bobby Hudson of Texas fired a 66 over the final 18 holes to win medalist honors by one shot over Florida State's Brooks Koepka who had a tournament-best 65 on Friday. Hudson carded a 7-under 209 to beat the 120-player field at the 6,913-yard North Course at the Mauna Lani Resort.
Honeycutt, who rebounded impressively from a second-round 81, started Friday's play with a bogey but mixed 10 pars with five birdies over the next 15 holes to help him post just one of 13 scores below 70 on the last day.
Graham also had his best round of the tournament, dropping 11 shots from his 82 on Thursday. Graham had four birdies and was four under before bogeys brought him back to even. A birdie on the par-5 10th dipped him back into the red on his final hole.
Haggen stayed near par for the third straight day, shooting 75 and highlighting his round with birdies on his last two holes. Booth had 12 pars, including seven on the front nine to finish with a 77 while Raber had three birdies during his round of 79.
UC Davis will return to competition on Feb. 14 when it plays in the Battle of the Beach hosted by Long Beach State and UCLA.
