NEWPORT COAST, Calif. - Buoyed by three birdies, junior Tim Honeycutt led the UC Davis men's golf team with a final-round 1-under 70 on Tuesday at the Battle of the Beach while teammate Austin Graham had a 71 and finished in a tie for eighth place at Pelican Hill Golf Club.

UC Davis caught the University of San Francisco on the final day, shooting a five-person team score of 370 to tie for 13th with the Dons. The Aggies concluded the tournament, which featured eight teams ranked in the top 50, with a 48-over total of 1,113,

Fourteenth-ranked UCLA rallied from third place on the final day, shooting 7-under 348 to beat both No. 48 Arkansas and No. 6 Washington by a single stroke. The Bruins, co-hosts of the three-day tournament with Long Beach State, posted a three-round total of 10-under 1,055.

David Lingmerth of Arkansas and Chris Williams of Washington shared medalist honors at 8-under 205.

Graham finished in the top 10 for the fourth time in seven events during the 2009-10 season after tying for eighth place at 5-under 208 with Jesper Kenngard of Arizona State. Graham opened his final round with a birdie on the par-4 fifth and was two over after seven holes, but three birdies the rest of the way fueled his third straight round at par or better.

Honeycutt improved his score for the second straight day, moving to three under after 11 holes. He carded birdies on the fourth, 10th and 13th holes, all of them par-4s. He tied for 46th at 7-over.

Sophomore Tyler Raber also tied for 46th after his final-round 73, a round highlighted by a trio of birdies. Helped by an eagle on the par-5 8th, Andrew Haggen finished with a 74 and tied for 78th. Josh Granger tied for 81st and Brent Booth was 86th.

UC Davis is off until participating in the USC Collegiate Invitational at Westlake Village on Mar. 1-2.
