Aggies Jump Into Top Five With Strong Second Round

STOCKTON, Calif. - Freshman Matt Hansen shot a 2-under 69 while three other Aggies fired 70s as the UC Davis men's golf team went five shots under par during Tuesday's second round of the Stockton Sports Commission Pacific Invitational, moving into fifth place.

Austin Graham, Andrew Haggen and Tyler Raber each finished a shot under par, helping the Aggies post a 279 team score. UC Davis' 14-shot improvement was best in the tournament and jumped it four spots into the top five. The Aggies are at 4-over 572. Andrew Haggen had a 74 to cap UC Davis' efforts at Brookside Country Club.

Host Pacific continued to pull away from the field, shooting a 13-under 271 for a two-day total of 25-under 543. The Tigers were buoyed by a school- and tournament-record 61 from T.J. Bordeaux who leads the 54-hole event by six strokes.

Hansen, who opened his tournament with a 76 on Monday, had two birdies over the final three holes of his front nine, making the the turn one under. Birdies on the courses second and fifth holes got him to three under before he eventually settled for a 69. He's tied for 31st at 3-over 145.

Graham shot 70 for the second straight day, picking up four birdies during his round and is tied for 12th at par. Raber, defending medalist, cut three shots off his first-day tally, also shooting 70, sparked by four birdies. He moved into the top 20 and is tied for 19th at 1-over.

Haggen is tied for 39th after dropping six shots from his first-round 76 with the Aggies' third 70 of the day. Haggen scrambled to come in under par, mixing six birdies, nine pars and three scores above par to reach 70. Honeycutt was two under after nine holes of his round before giving strokes back on the final nine to post 74.

Charlotte, ranked 39th, is in third at 3-under while Fresno State is at 1-under, just five shots in front of UC Davis. The Aggies' score was tied for third-best of the day.

The Aggies will begin the final round at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, playing alongside Fresno State and Marquette.
