FAIRFAX, Calif. - Andrew Haggen and Matt Hansen each shot 3-under 68s on Tuesday while senior Austinp Graham finished tied for ninth, as the UC Davis men's golf team placed fourth at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational hosted by Cal at Meadow Golf Club.

The Aggies posted their third straight round below, shooting a collective 7-under 277 to finish the 54-hole tournament at 23-under 829. Graham, who had a 70 in the last round, tied for ninth at 8-under 205.

Haggen and Hansen, whose rounds of 69, 71 and 68 mirrored each other this week, tied for 16th at 5-under 208. Junior Tyler Raber tied for 24th at 209 after closing with a 72 while freshman Daniel Covrig carded his second straight par round and tied for 57th at 217.

Cal, which had a 10-stroke lead after the second round, held on to beat a charging San Diego State squad by two strokes. The 22nd-ranked Bears finished at 48-under 804 while the 15th-ranked Aztecs, who had a 16-under 268 on Tuesday, ended at 806. Oregon State, ranked 43rd, was well back in third at 27-under 825.

The Aggies were three strokes in front of Big West member UC Irvine, which was fifth at 832, while Colorado State took sixth at 11-under 841. Sixteen teams participated in the tournament.

Hansen carded six birdies in his round, picking up four on the front nine to help him make the turn three under. He added two more over his next four holes, including one on the par-5, 13th, that pushed him to five under before he came in with a 68.

Haggen was very steady through his first 11 holes, carding birdies on the 1st, 5th and 9th holes to also make his turn three shots in the red. A birdie, a bogey and seven pars comprised his back nine and helped him finish with a 68.

Graham's season-best tie for ninth featured a Tuesday round that opened with a birdie, had another on the 14th and had just a single bogey. Raber had four birdies during his 72, including three over a four-hole span on the back nine when he moved from four shots over par to just one.

Covrig was one under after nine holes but had a scrambling back nine that had just two pars but was still played just one shot over par on his way to a 71.

First-day co-leader Alex Kang shot a final-round 68, ending the tournament at 16-under 197 and taking medalist honors by a stroke over two players.

UC Davis will finish the fall season on Nov. 1-3 when it looks to defend the title it won last year at the Stockton Sports Commission Pacific Invitational. Raber is the defending medalist after an impressive 2009 tournament when he had a school-record 63 in the second round.
