Aggies Remain In Seventh At The Prestige

LA QUINTA, Calif. - Andrew Haggen led UC Davis for the second straight day, shooting par-72, while freshman Daniel Covrig fired a 73, as the Aggie men's golf team remained tied for seventh heading into Tuesday's final round of The Prestige at PGA WEST, which it is co-hosting with Stanford.

The 54-hole tournament is being contested at the 7,300 TPC Stadium Course at PGA WEST. Rivals Cal and Stanford share the 36-hole lead at 1-under 575 with Pac-10 foe Washington, ranked seventh nationally, in third at 580. San Diego (584) and Arizona State (588) round out the top five.

UC Davis is tied with Oregon and Central Florida at 17-over 593 with the trio trailing sixth-place Vanderbilt by just one shot.

Haggen is tied for 15th in the 81-player field at 1-over 145 after opening the tournament on Monday with a a 73. Covrig, who cut two strokes off his opening-round 75, is tied for 21st at 4-over 148. Senior Austin Graham shot a 76 and is tied for 38th at 151, freshman Matt Hansen is tied for 51st at 10-over after carding an 80, and junior Tyler Raber is tied for 60th at 11-over 155 after finishing with a 75.

Washington's Charlie Hughes had an impressive 66 and holds the individual lead at 9-under 135. Stanford's Cameron Wilson is two shots back with Alex Ching of San Diego and the Cardinal's Andrew Yun both four shots off the pace.

Haggen got off to a strong start on Monday, carding three birdies over his first nine holes to move to three under. He was two under with four holes to go before finishing with a double-bogey, birdie, bogey and par to come in with a 72.

Covrig, making his debut for the Aggies this week, had three birdies over his final seven holes to help him finish with a 73. Graham had two birdies, including one on his last hole, to post his 75 while Raber was five shots better than his first-round score thanks to a steady round that featured 15 pars. Hansen just two over on his front nine before dropping shots on the back.

Aggie freshman Matt Seramin, playing as an individual, shot an 83 and is tied for 74th.

The Prestige at PGA WEST is among the top collegiate tournaments each season. This year it features eight teams ranked among the top 50 in NCAA Division I with four of them leading the tournament.

The final round begins with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
