UC Davis Sweeps Pacific in Big West Dual Action

DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis swept Pacific Saturday in a Big West Conference dual meet at Schaal Aquatics Center in Davis, Calif. The Aggie men took a 151-125 victory to remain undefeated in dual meet competition at 5-0. The women improve to 3-5 with their 187-107 win.

Matt Herman set a Schaal Aquatics Center record in the 1650 freestyle. His time of 15:39.17 shattered his own record of 15:42.70 set in 2008.

Linda Hermann led the women's side with two individual wins. She finished first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:53.51 and won the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:09.57. She also finished second in the 200 backstroke at 2:08.14.

UC Davis swept the 200 medley relay to start the day with Ashley Chandler, Lisa Bender, Kayleigh Foley and Katelyn Griffin combining for a time of 1:47.28 for the women. Jimmy Fong, Kyle Anderson, Daniel Donnelly and Russ Underwood clocked in at 1:33.04 to win the men's relay.

Pacific's Jayme Swalin won the Tigers' first individual event when she clocked in at 10:22.42 to win the 1000 freestyle. Bridget Bugbee finished second at 10:28.61.

Hermann and Bugbee claimed the top two spots in the 200 freestyle while Alex Daneke and BJ Scoggan were first and second, respectively, in the men's event. Daneke clocked in at 1:42.82 while Scoggan recorded a time of 1:44.45.

Pacific earned another individual win when Devonie Migues edged Ashley Chandler for first place in the 100 backstroke. Migues touched at 57.05, just ahead of Chandler's time of 57.15.

The Tigers also outtouched the Aggies in the women's 100 breaststroke when Mallory McGowan claimed first place with a time of 1:06.13 over Morgan Lee, who recorded a time of 1:07.48 for UC Davis. Anderson and Keegan Groot claimed the top two spots in the men's 100 breaststroke with times of 58.86 and 59.34, respectively.

Jenah Dawson was second in the 200 butterfly, finishing in between Pacific's Elena Walterman and Jenna Chaplin with her time of 2:07.23. Reid Hartz was second for the Aggie men with a time of 1:59.57 in the event.

The UC Davis women swept the top three spots in the 50 freestyle with Chandler finishing first at 24.13. Foley claimed second at 24.28 while Jen Cadmus was third at 24.86. Russ Underwood narrowly edged out Steven Woods for first place in the men's event with a time of 21.49 to Woods' time of 21.59.

Foley won her first individual event of the day with a victory in the 100 freestyle when she clocked in at 52.66. Underwood picked up his second straight individual victory with a win in the men's event and a time of 46.79.

UC Davis won six individual events and both the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay on the women's side, while the men won seven of the first eight individual events.

The Aggie women travel to San Jose State for a dual meet with the Spartans Sunday, Jan. 17 at 1:00 p.m. Both teams return to action Saturday, Jan. 23 in a 1:00 p.m. dual meet at Cal State Bakersfield.
