USA Junior Outdoor Championships javelin results
EUGENE, Ore. -- UC Davis freshman Brock Bennett finished 12th in the javelin Sunday at the USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the University of Oregon with a mark of 191 feet, 6 inches, his second-best throw of the year.
Bennett, a freshman from Medford, Ore., posted the mark on his first attempt. It was just shy of his career-best mark of 192-5, set during his third-place finish at the Sacramento State Open in early May.
Sam Crouser finished first on Sunday at 220-5 and Matt Byers took second at 214-9. Both throwers earned berths on the United States' team to the 2009 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships in Trinidad next month.
Bennett's competition Sunday brought to a close UC Davis' representation at Hayward Field which also hosted the USA Outdoor Championships in addition to the junior nationals.
Aggie pole vaulter Ethan Ostrom tied for seventh Thursday during the junior nationals while Jazz Trice and Polly Gnepa participated in the 110-meter high hurdles at the senior nationals. Alex Wilright advanced to Saturdays' semfinals of the 400 hurdles.
