SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Nate Pistacchio had a 5-under 65, Austin Graham fired a 67 and Ramie Sprinkling carded a 69 as the two-time defending UC Davis men's golf team blitzed the Talking Stick Golf Club North Course for a 9-under 271 in Monday's second round to take a two-shot 36-hole lead at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic.

The 271 team score is also the lowest 18-hole score in program history, beating the 272 the Aggies had two years ago in the same tournament.

Each of the three Aggies who broke 70 are among the top 11 places in the 118-player field. Graham, who had a 70 in the first round, is tied for second at 3-under 137 on the par-70, 7,133-yard course. Sprinkling is tied for fifth at 1-under 139 and Pistacchio is tied for 11th at par. Brent Booth shot par in the afternoon round and is tied for 37th at 4-over while Tyler Raber finished with a 72 and is tied for 41st at 5-over.

UC Davis, ranked 26th nationally, had a 7-over 287 over the opening 18 holes and was tied for sixth, four shots behind Texas El-Paso. However, the Aggies shot a season-low 271 in the second round to finish the day at 2-under 558 and take a two-shot lead over No. 51 Northwestern and and No. 71 Oregon State. UTEP is at 4-over 564 while Fresno State and San Diego are one-shot behind the Miners in the 20-team tournament.

The Aggies have won the past two Wyoming Cowboy Classic tournaments, rallying from a five-shot deficit after 36 holes to post a three-shot victory over runner-up Grand Canyon last year. UC Davis edged UC Santa Barbara by a stroke for the 2007 title as former Aggie Louie Bishop earned medalist honors.

Oregon State's Morgan Madsen had back-to-back rounds of 66 and 67on Monday to finish the day 7 shots below par and lead Graham and Northwestern's David Lipsky by four shots. Ten players completed Monday's play below par while four shot par.

Graham, Pistacchio and Sprinkling have combined for seven top-five performances this year with each also earning medalist accolades at least one tournament apiece. The Aggies are looking for their second team title of the 2008-09 season and their eighth in the top five.

The tournament concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday morning.
