Final Stats
STANFORD, Calif. - Freshman midfielder Anna Boeri posted five assists off the bench while three Cardinal players delivered hat tricks as 14th-ranked Stanford captured a 17-3 win over UC Davis in the semifinal round of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's lacrosse tournament, held at the Farm's Laird Q. Cagan Stadium Friday evening.
The Aggies fall to 6-11 for the season, having advanced to the semis after Thursday's 16-14 upset of Denver. The Cardinal, top seed in the tournament, improve to 11-4.
Junior Britt Farquharson led UC Davis offensively with two goals, while junior Molly Lapolla scored the third goal and sophomore Christina Corsa recorded a pair of assists. Defensively, sophomore Rachael Martinez paced the Aggies with two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
Junior Amanda Schwab and sophomores Karen Nesbitt and Leslie Foard each tallied three goals for Stanford. The Cardinal outshot its guest by a 35-13 margin - including 28-6 in the first half - and won 14 of the game's 22 draws. Dana Lindsay had two goals and Lauren Schmidt had two assists to kick-start Stanford to a 7-1 lead in the first eight minutes of play, then Schwab and attacker Maggie Sachs each scored two goals down the stretch of the first period to lift the Cardinal to a 13-2 halftime edge.
Lapolla had the lone UC Davis goal after the break, converting on an eight-meter attempt in the 37th minute. Neither team scored in the final 14 minutes of the game; in fact, the two teams only fired one shot each during that time.
The Aggies finish their 2009 season with a non-conference home game against Louisville on May 2. Game time is noon, allowing the student-athletes to participate in that evening's Aggie Auction fund-raiser.
