No. 28 Aggies Earn Ninth At Tough U.S. Intercollegiate

STANFORD, Calif. - Ramie Sprinkling posted his fifth top-10 finish of the year with his tie for seventh place at the U.S. Intercollegiate at Stanford on Sunday as No. 28 UC Davis tuned up for the Big West Conference Championships with a ninth-place performance.

UC Davis, the top seed for the conference tournament which runs Monday and Tuesday in San Luis Obispo, shot a final-round score of 7-over 287 at Stanford on Sunday to earn its 10th top-10 finish in 11 tournaments. The Aggies finished the two-day event at 8-over.

The tournament was contested at the 6,742-yard Stanford Golf Course.

Sprinkling shot a team-best round of even-par 70 over the final 18 holes to stay at 5-under and tie John Chin of UC Irvine and Erik Flores of UCLA for seventh in the individual standings.

Sprinkling's total was his second-best score relative to par this season while his top-10 showing was his third over the past four tournaments. He birdied two of his first eight holes and was 1 over later in the round before battling back to par down the stretch.

The Aggies, one of 11 teams ranked in the top 50 that participated in the 17-team tournament, finished just two shots behind eighth-place UC Irvine and three in front of No. 38 Oregon. Among the teams that UC Davis finished in front of was No. 17 Texas which was 12th.

Eighth-ranked Washington led wire-to-wire in the 54-hole event, matching their first round 13-under 267 with another in the third to card a 36-under total of 804 and beat No. 2 Southern California by 15 shots. Arizona State, ranked 21st, was third at 16-under, No. 5 Stanford took fourth on its own course at -11 and No. 15 UCLA grabbed fifth at -9.

UC Davis sophomore Austin Graham and senior Nate Pistacchio each shot 72's on Sunday with Graham carding two birdies and Pistacchio picking up three. Graham tied for 45th at 4-over 214 while Pistaccho tied for 52nd at 6-over.

The Aggies' Brent Booth had just five pars but added five birdies for an up-and-down round of 73, tying for 40th at 3-over. Tyler Raber had an 81 and tied for 82nd at 22-over.

Fueled by a 7-under 63, Washington's Nick Taylor earned medalist honors at 12-under 198, leading a 1-2-3 finish for the Huskies. Darren Wallace - who also shot 63 on Sunday - finished one shot back while first-day leader Tze Hunag Choo was two shots off the pace.

Eight teams will participate in the 54-hole Big West Championship at San Luis Obispo Country Club. Teams will play 36 holes on Monday followed by 18 on Tuesday. UC Davis finished second in its inaugural appearance last year.
