Saints Escape With 12-10 Lacrosse Win

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Freshman midfielder Michelle Andreo scored a game-high four goals, including two in her team's late-game comeback, to help Siena recover from a one-goal deficit en route to a 12-10 win over UC Davis in non-conference collegiate women's lacrosse play at Siena Turf Field Monday afternoon.

The Aggies fall to 2-7 for the season. The Saints improve to 6-1.

Senior Patrice Clark scored three goals, while Britt Farquharson, Christina Corsa and Jacklyn Taylor each added two for UC Davis. Junior Molly Lapolla led all players with three assists, one more than her teammate Corsa.

Siena senior Lindsey Rosencrans added three goals with two assists, four draw controls and three ground balls. Sophomore attack Caitlin Mikel added a hat trick and converted 2 of 2 on eight-meter chances.

Both teams engaged in evenly matched offense during the early going until Rosencrans tallied a goal and assist in a 3-0 run that lifted Siena to a 6-4 lead. The Saints held a 7-5 edge at the halftime break, having outshot (19-to-15) and outdrawn (9-to-3) their guests in the first period.

UC Davis fell behind by as much as a 9-6 deficit before rolling to four unanswered goals from the 40th to 49th minutes. Lapolla assisted Clark for the first goal in that stretch, then fed Corsa for the go-ahead goal at 48:34. Corsa also earned an assist during the 4-0 run, setting up Farquharson on a goal in transition.

Andreo took advantage of a 12-on-11 situation to score the equalizer with 8:14 remaining in the game, then after Mikel's eight-meter goal with 4:18 left, she pushed the lead to 12-10 on an unassisted effort.

The Aggies enjoyed one of its most efficent transition games in recent weeks, making good on 16 of 20 clear attempts. Sophomore goalie Alyssa Cranska posted eight saves and six ground balls around the UC Davis cage, while Alyse Lasater, Lauren Boyle and Gina Hoffmire each tallied three ground balls.

The Aggies will head down Interstate 87 to face Manhattan College in Riverdale, N.Y. Gametime is 3:30 p.m. Eastern.
