March 14, 2009

Final Stats

DAVIS, Calif. - Despite a career-high five goals from junior midfielder Britt Farquharson, UC Davis was unable to complete its second-half comeback effort, falling by a 13-8 final to Robert Morris in a non-conference women's collegiate lacrosse game at Aggie Stadium Saturday afternoon.

The Aggies drop their third straight game, falling to 2-5 for the year. The Colonials even their record at 3-3.

Seniors Kara Blakeley and Jenn Collins each scored three goals to pace RMU offensively, while Courtney Sicinski and Jillian Howley tallied two goals apiece. Freshman goalkeeper Erica Webb had 12 saves against seven goals in her 58-plus minutes of work in front of the Colonial cage.

For UC Davis, sophomore Gina Hoffmire added two goals while senior Patrice Clark provided one goal and one assist. Sophomore Christina Corsa recorded two assists. Sophomores Alyssa Cranska and Kjersten Nordmeyer split goaltending chores for the Aggies, each notching six saves in ther respective halves.

UC Davis crafted a 3-1 lead in the first four minutes of play, getting two goals from Farquharson in that run. However, RMU sealed the net for the remainder of the period, scoring seven straight goals with the help of three Collins draw controls. Collins and Blakeley each scored two goals for the Colonials during that stretch.

After facing an 8-3 halftime deficit, the Aggies scored four of the first five goals in the second half - including three straight by Farquharson - to cut the margin to just 7-9. However, Robert Morris took advantage of a UC Davis yellow card, scoring three consecutive power-play goals to widen the gap back to 12-7, then tacking on a Kara Blakeley goal at 58:03 to make it four straight.

Junior Molly Peterson led UC Davis defensively with three caused turnovers and four ground balls. Her fellow co-captain, senior Eri Ichikawa, earned four ground balls and two steals in the Aggie backfield.

UC Davis completes its three-game homestand with a Monday afternoon game against Colgate before heading into final examinations.
