Final Stats

DAVIS, Calif. - Katie Williams scored 30 points and pulled down 12 rebounds as Cal State Bakersfield capitalized on a 13-0 run early in the second half en route to an 80-71 nonconference women's basketball win at The Pavilion on Wednesday night.

UC Davis lost its third consecutive game, falling to 9-17 overall. The Aggies were led by senior Genevieve Costello who hit a career-high tying five three-pointers and scored 15 points, and by Paige Mintun who had 15 points and five assists. Cortney French hit a quartet of treys, scoring 14 points.

Christine Kepenekian had 14 points off the bench for the Roadrunners who also held a 41-29 rebounding advantage including 18 offensive boards.

UC Davis was down just 40-35 at halftime and got a quick bucket from Kasey Riecks to get within three but Cal State Bakersfield responded by scoring the next 13 points over a 2-minute, 5-second span to take a 53-37 lead with 17:19 to go. Williams had a pair of three-pointers in that run which eventually went to 24-5 as the Roadrunners went up 64-42 with 11:42 remaining.

The Aggies responded, however, by scoring 10 straight to get within striking distance at 64-52 as Ashley Curry and Genevieve Costello hit treys. But the Roadrunners went up by as many as 16 before UC Davis rallied to within single digits in the final minute.

"The key was the first three minutes of the second half," said Aggie coach Sandy Simpson. "They really took control of the game from there. We just haven't started the second half very well in the last three games. They were just way more agressive than us."

The game was tied twice in the opening minutes before UC Davis took its final lead of the game on a three-pointer from Cortney French just over six minutes in that made it 11-10. The Roadrunners led 33-23 before a 7-0 Aggie surge made it 33-30. Cal State Bakersfield led by five at the half.

UC Davis finished with 11 three pointers in 23 attempts, the fourth time this year it has made at least that many. Costello's five three-pointers tied her highest total as an Aggie which she also had at Stanford in December. French also had four against UC Irvine in January.

Costello posted six assists for the fourth time in her career.

Williams was 12 of 24 from the field, including making a trio of three-pointers, while also compiling five steals. She scored at least 30 points for the second time this year.
