Final Stats

MORAGA, Calif. - Sophomore midfielder Gina Hoffmire scored her team-best fourth goal with 36 seconds remaining in the second overtime period to lead UC Davis to a 14-13 win over Saint Mary's in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's lacrosse action at Saint Mary's Stadium Sunday.

The Aggies even their overall and conference mark at 1-1. The Gaels dip to 0-2 for the season and in MPSF play.

Hoffmire shot 4-for-6 with an assist, four draw controls and three ground balls for the game. She was one of three Aggies to convert hat tricks: sophomores Molly Lapolla and Christina Corsa each recorded three goals and assist. Senior Patrice Clark added two goals and junior Britt Farquharson had a goal and four draw controls.

Senior midfielder P.J. Hainley had three goals and assist for Saint Mary's, while junior defender Maggie Schwab added three goals. Junior Abbie Coleman led all players with three assists to go with one eight-meter goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Cranska tallied seven saves in relief of Aggie starter Kjersten Nordmeyer, including three in the second three-minute overtime period. Coleman fired two shots within the first minute of the second OT, but Cranska stopped both of those attempts, plus Hainley's equalizer attempt with 0:28 left.

Saint Mary's either led or tied for most of regulation, holding a 6-5 edge at halftime then a 9-8 advantage after Annabel Pollioni's eight-meter goal at the 46:22 mark. Lapolla then hit consecutive free-position goals in the 48th and 49th minutes to push the Aggies up by a 10-9 mark, then Gael freshman converted her eight-meter shot at 49:49 to tie the game for a fifth time.

Hoffmire completed her hat trick at 54:52 then later assisted Corsa amidst a run of three unanswered goals, helping UC Davis take a 13-10 lead with 71 seconds remaining in the game.

Saint Marys' then began a miraculous comeback run. Playing short-handed - Hainley was serving a yellow card for the last three minutes of regulation - Coleman assisted Schwab on three straight goals within a span of 46 seconds. Claire Purcell, Dana Elfvin and Ciara Breckenridge each won draw controls to contribute to the 3-0 tear.

Clark had the only shot in the first overtime period, but her attempt caromed off the crossbar and was recovered by Purcell. Schwab won the first draw of the second OT, setting the stage for Cranska's goal-keeping heroics and Hoffmire's game-winning score.

UC Davis continues MPSF action in a home opener against Stanford on Wednesday. Gametime is 7 p.m. from Aggie Stadium.
