STOCKTON, Calif. -- Sophomore Tyler Raber shot a 6-under 30 on his front nine on Monday morning, finishing the day with a 7-under 64 and helping the UC Davis men's golf team move into a share of the lead with Oregon after the first day of the Stockton Sports Commission Pacific Invitational at Brookside Country Club.
Junior Austin Graham is tied for third, just one shot behind the leaders, while helping the Aggies fire an 11-under 273 to tie them with the Ducks who also have the individual co-leader in Eugene Wong. UC Davis senior Brent Booth is tied for 22nd after a par 71, while redshirt sophomore Andrew Haggen and sophomore Tim Honeycutt each carded 73s and are tied for 39th.
UC Davis and No. 22 Oregon hold a five-shot lead over host Pacific on the 6,157-yard course. BYU is in fourth at 5-under and Saint Mary's is in fifth at 4-under as eight of the tournament's 12 teams shot in the red during the first round of the 54-hole tournament which runs through Wednesday.
Raber and Graham blitzed the course for a combined 15 birdies with Raber picking up eight. Both Aggies each had just one bogey. Raber, who tied for eighth earlier this season at the Michigan Spartan Classic, had six birdies over his front nine which began on the 10th hole. He was one under after three holes before picking up five birdies over his next five holes, including three in a row on the 16th through 18th holes.
Graham was two under after nine holes and was three under with four to play before picking up consecutive birdies on the 6th through 8th holes. Booth's 71 was fueled by a trio of birdies while Honeycutt and Haggen also had three each.
UC Davis will tee off the second round beginning at 8:50 a.m. on Tuesday.
