SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara men's and women's swimming teams took wins in 22 of 28 events to earn a sweep over UC Davis during a Big West Conference dual at Campus Pool Saturday afternoon. For the second consecutive dual, junior Heidi Kucera led the women with wins in three events while sophomore Adam Borchard led the men's team with a wins in both of the distance freestyle events.

The Gauchos swept the Aggies for the third consecutive season with a 154.5-87.5 in the women's dual and a 168-94 win during the men's dual. Both Gaucho teams were picked to repeat as Big West Conference champions in the preseason coaches poll. The Aggie women are now 7-9 in duals while the men stand at 6-3. It was the first competition for the men's team in over a month.

For the second time in as many duals Kucera led the Aggie women with three individual victories. Kucera won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.43), 400 individual medley (4:28.04) and 200 free (1:53.10). Her times in the 200 breast and 200 free were season bests. UC Santa Barbara had the best conference times in each of the three events heading into the dual.

Borchard swept the distance free events with a time of 9:31.47 in the 1,000 and 4:36.90 in the 500. Junior Scott Weltz claimed the top spot in the 200 IM (1:52.91) as the only other Aggie to claim an event win. Weltz was also second in the 200 free (1:41.98).

The Gauchos swept the relay events with the Aggie men taking second each time. The women were second in the opening 200 medley relay.

UC Davis returns to action on Jan. 24 with a conference dual at Pacific at noon.
