ANN ARBOR, Mich. - UC Davis is two strokes off the lead after two rounds of men's golf action Saturday on the opening day of the Wolverine Intercollegiate in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Aggies stand in second place at 9-under 559 after 36 holes and are two strokes behind host Michigan. UC Davis was in third after the first round with a one-over 285 but posted the top score in the second round with a 10-under 274. The tournament is being held at the par-71, 6,704-yard U-M Golf Course.
Ramie Sprinkling played a big part in the Aggies' opening day success with a pair of sub-70 rounds. He fired a two-under 69 in the first round and followed with a three-under 68. He is currently in second place, overall, and is one of just two players in the 16-team field to break 70 in both rounds.
Austin Graham had the lowest round of the day for the Aggies' when he posted a four-under 67 in the second round. In all, three Aggies broke 70 in the second round, alone, as Tyler Raber carded a two-under 69. Graham is tied with teammate Nate Pistacchio at one-under through 54 holes. Pistacchio shot a 71 in the first round followed by a 70 in the second round.
Brent Booth was also consistent for the Aggies as he finished the first round with an even-par 71 before posting 72 in the following round. Booth is tied for 24th overall at one-over for the tournament. Raber is tied for 38th at three over par.
While the Aggies are just two strokes back of the Wolverines, they hold a nine-stroke advantage over third-place Colorado State. Cal and Michigan State are tied for fourth and 10 strokes behind the Aggies while Wisconsin and Virginia Tech are 13 strokes behind UC Davis.
Sunday's third and final round begins with a shotgun start at 5:30 p.m. Pacific time.
