Final Stats
BERKELEY, Calif. - Sophomore attacker Olivia Jarem scored three goals while four other Aggies had two each to lead UC Davis to a 13-11 win over Saint Mary's in the fifth-place game of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's lacrosse championship at Cal's Memorial Stadium Thursday.
The Aggies finish the season at 7-11. The Gaels end their 2008 campaign wih a 2-16 ledger.
Seniors Katie McMahon and Katie McGovern, sophomore Patrice Clark and freshman Gina Hoffmire each had two goals for UC Davis, while freshman Christina Corsa and sophomore Molly Lapolla both added one. Senior goalkeeper Hilary Harkins posted 10 saves in net.
Junior midfielder P.J. Hainley led SMC with a game-high six goals. Chloe Dee had two goals, two assists and four draw controls for the Gaels.
The Aggies only trailed at one point in the game, falling behind by a 4-3 margin midway through the first period after Hainley hit her fourth goal. McMahon hit the equalizer a minute later, igniting a 4-0 run that helped UC Davis enter the halftime break with a 7-5 edge.
Corsa, McGovern and Hoffmire combined for four eight-meter goals in the second half to bump the lead to 13-7 through 49 minutes of play, then the Gaels finished the game with four straight scores to bring the final tally to a two-goal margin.
Thursday's game concluded the careers of seven Aggie seniors, including record-holders McMahon and Harkins. McMahon finished the year with 61 goals, bringing her career total to 252, nearly twice as many as the previous standard. Harkins nabbed 161 saves for the year, vaulting her lifetime total to 583. She had surpassed Kristen Braasch for that Aggie mark during last season's MPSF tournament.
