Final Stats
BERKELEY, Calif. - Senior Jen May and junior Ilsa van den Berg each scored three goals to help fourth-seeded Oregon to a 14-9 win over fifth-seeded UC Davis in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship quarterfinal game at California's Memorial Stadium Wednesday.
The Aggies fall to 6-11 for the year. Oregon, among the teams receiving votes in Monday's national coaches' poll, improves to 12-6 overall.
Freshman Christina Corsa scored a game-high four goals, all of which came in her team's comeback bid from a 9-3 deficit. Senior Katie McMahon added three goals and two assists for the Aggies, while senior Hilary Harkins posted nine goalie saves in net.
Oregon jumped out to a 2-0 lead after three minutes of play, then UC Davis quickly tied the game behind an assist (to sophomore Molly Lapolla) and goal by McMahon in the fifth and sixth minutes. However, UO freshman Alex Breiner had two goals as the Ducks scored seven of the next eight to craft a 9-3 lead after 20 minutes of play.
Corsa scored two quick goals in the final 1:03 before the halftime break, then had her team's first two scores in the second half to help the Aggies battle back to an 11-7 deficit.
The Ducks extended their lead back to six goals, getting a pair of scores from van den Berg, the latter of which put the tally at 13-7 with 12:15 remaining. UC Davis later closed the gap back to four behind back-to-back McMahon goals, but the Aggies were unable to approach any closer.
UC Davis will compete in the MPSF fifth-place game against the loser of the Stanford-Saint Mary's game, held later in the day at Memorial Stadium.
