U.S. Intercollegiate Complete Results
STANFORD, Calif. -- Freshman Austin Graham fired an even-par 70 and finished in a tie for 11th at 2 over on Sunday as the UC Davis men's golf shot 292 in the final round of the U.S. Intercollegiate at Stanford to move up and finish ninth at the highly competitive tournament.
The Aggies' final-round score was its best of the 54-hole event which featured 14 teams ranked in the top 100 nationally, including eight in the top 50. Second-ranked USC led the entire way, scoring a 13-stroke victory over No. 11 Stanford with a 12-under score of 828. California and No. 3 UCLA tied for third while UC Irvine was fifth.
The 17-team tournament was played at the 6,742-yard Stanford Golf Course.
UC Davis, which finished one stroke ahead of No. 40 Oregon and five in front of No.45 TCU which was 12th, carded a three-round total of 48-over 888. The Aggies' 292 on Sunday was its lowest of the weekend, bettering its 293 from the first round.
Graham led UC Davis for the third consecutive round, posting three birdies and 12 pars on his way to a 70 on Sunday. He had a 69 in Saturday morning's first round, ending the tournament at 2-over 212. He tied for 11th with Tim Cha of UC Irvine.
Senior Matt Marshall enjoyed his best score of the tournament over the final 18 holes, finishing with a round of 70 that had six birdies and five bogeys. He tied for 43rd at 14-over 224. Gregg Button finished in a tie for 51st at 226 after shooting 76 on Sunday, Nate Pistacchio had a 75 and tied for 58th at 228, and Ramie Sprinkling had a 77 and tied for 62nd at 229.
Rory Hie of USC, who had a 62 in the first round, carded a 67 in the last round for a 54-hole total of 10-under 200. He won by eight strokes over Kevin Chappell of UCLA, Sihwan Kim of Stanford and teammate Tom Glissmeyer.
The U.S. Intercollegiate marked the midway point of a busy four days of golf for UC Davis which will begin play on Monday in its first-ever Big West Conference Championship at Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita. The tournament will feature 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday.
The Aggies are seeded second at the Big West Championships behind UC Irvine. Cal State Northridge is third, followed by Cal Poly, Pacific, UC Santa Barbara, Long Beach State and UC Riverside.
