CRESWELL, Ore. -- Freshman Austin Graham fired an par 72 to lead the UC Davis men's golf team in Monday's second round after senior Matt Marshall had a 73 in the first as the Aggies grabbed fourth place at the Oregon Duck Invitational heading into Tuesday's final round.
The tournament is being contested at the 7,093-yard Emerald Valley Golf Club.
UC Davis, which stood in fifth place after shooting a 9-over 297 in the first round, cut two strokes off that total to fire a 295 and climb a spot in the 11-team standings. San Diego State had a two-round total of 5-over 581 to grab a five-shot lead over Pacific and a nine-shot advantage over the host Ducks.,
The Aggies are just two shots behind Oregon and are one stroke in front of fifth-place Arkansas. The next five teams behind UC Davis are all within five shots.
Marshall, who is tied for 23rd at 149 after Monday, led UC Davis with his 73 in the first round while Ramie Sprinkling, who is tied for ninth, and Nate Pistacchio, who is tied for 16th, each had 74's to start the day. Graham opened with a 76 for the Aggies before pacing them in the second round with his 72.
He led three Aggies who hovered near par in the afternoon round, a trio that included Sprinkling and Pistacchio who had 73 and and 74, respectively. Marshall had a 76 in the second round while Phil Huffman had his second straight 81.
Sprinkling is tied for ninth in the individual standings with six other golfers at 3-over 147 while Pistacchio and Graham are among seven golfers tied for 16th a stroke back. Huffman is in 60th place.
Pacific's T.J. Bordeaux had matching 68's in the first two rounds to finish the day 8-under and take a five-shot lead over San Diego State's Aaron Goldberg. Joey Benedetti of Oregon and Vincent Johnson - playing as an individual for Oregon State - are each at par.
The tournament's final round begins with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
