Final Stats

FULLERTON, Calif. - Deanna Menapace hit her second home run in as many games, but it wasn't enough as UC Davis was edged by Texas Tech, 3-2, Sunday in the Aggies' final game at the Worth Invitational. The Aggies outhit the Red Raiders, 5-4 but had a seventh inning rally come up short. The loss drops UC Davis to 10-11 on the year.

Texas Tech (3-14) opened its scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Devin Zaragoza drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on a passed ball. One out later, Jennifer Corkin delivered a timely RBI-single to right to give the Red Raiders a 1-0 lead. That margin would hold up through three innings.

In the top of the fourth, Menapace led off with a home run to center. It was her team-leading third homer of the season and tied the score at 1-1. Texas Tech responded with a pair of runs in its half of the fourth. With runners at second and third and one out, Liz Eimen singled to center to drive in two and put the Red Raiders up 3-1.

Neither team would score in the next two innings before UC Davis put together a rally in the seventh. The Aggies were trying to duplicate what they had done Saturday night against Notre Dame in which they erased a four-run deficit in the sixth inning. This time, UC Davis needed two runs to even the score against Texas Tech.

With one out, Sarah Axleson reached on an infield single and was replaced by Caitlin Low. Lindsey Jones stepped to the plate and drew a walk before Michelle Espirutu loaded the bases with a single to right. Everyone advanced as the result of an illegal pitch, and Low scored on the play. The next two Aggies struck out to end the game.

UC Davis returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Santa Clara in a doubleheader. The first game starts at 1 p.m. a La Rue Field.
