WAIKOLOA VILLAGE, Hawaii -- Freshman Austin Graham shot a 3-under 67 on Friday - the third different Aggie to post the team's lowest score of a round this week - and Nate Pistacchio had a 68 as the UC Davis men's golf team finished the 18th annual Hawaii-Hilo Intercollegiate in 10th place after opening the event in a tie for 15th.
UC Davis, which shot a 288 on Wednesday, jumped into 12th on Thursday after shooting a 3-under 277 before concluding the 54-hole tournament on Friday with a 279. The Aggies finished the three-day event at 4 over, one shot ahead of 11th-place Colorado and two in front of 12th-place Santa Clara.
UC Davis finished ahead of two teams ranked in front of it by Golfweek: No. 42 Oklahoma and No. 73 Colorado. The Sooners finished 13th at Hawaii.
Graham helped the Aggies make another move up the leaderboard after firing a 67, the team's fourth round in the 60's this week which all came over the past two days. The final day surge helped him leap 28 places in the final standings to a tie for 23rd at 1-under 209. It also tied his low round as an Aggie.
Pistacchio, meanwhile, followed his second-round 65 - tied for the lowest round in school history - by shooting a 68 over the last 18 holes to tie for 13th overall at 4-under. He opened with a 73 before going below 70 in the final two rounds. Ramie Sprinkling, who had a 69 on Thursday, ended with his second 71 of the week and tied for 34th at 1 over. Matt Marshall carded a 73 on Friday and tied for 73rd at 218 while Gregg Button also had a 73, tying for 81st at 220 in the final standings.
UC Davis' lowest scores each day were posted by three different players. Sprinkling had led on Wednesday while Pistacchio's impressive 65 was the team's best on Thursday.
Stanford, which overtook first-round leaders Arizona State and Texas Tech with a blistering 17-under score on Thursday, had a 275 on Friday to finish at 27-under. The Cardinal beat Arizona State and Southern California by three shots while Georgia Tech took fourth, 11 shots off the pace.
The Sun Devil's Jesper Kennegard, who had a 63 on Thursday, took medalist honors at 13 under after carding a 66 in the last round. Stanford's Rob Grube and Sihwan Kim each had a 67 and tied for saecond at 11 under 199.
The tournament was played at the 6,738-yard Waikoloa Village Golf Course.
UC Davis will return to action at the Rice University Intercollegiate in Houston, Texas on Feb. 18-19.
