WAIKOLOA VILLAGE, Hawaii - Junior Nate Pistacchio fired a 5-under par 65 on Thursday, moving him from a tie for 65th into a tie for 18th and helping the UC Davis men's golf team jump into 12th place after two rounds of the 18th annual Hawaii-Hilo Intercollegiate at the Waikoloa Village Golf Course.
UC Davis, which also got a 69 from Ramie Sprinkling, shaved 11 strokes off its opening round score to shoot 3-under 277 moving up the leaderboard from its first-day tie for 15th. Pistacchio is at 2-under 138 after shooting a 73 on Wednesday while Sprinkling is tied for 31st at 140. Austin Graham had a 70 and is tied for 51st at 142, Matt Marshall had a 73 and is tied for 70th at 145, and Gregg Button is tied for 82nd after his 73 put him at 147 overall.
Stanford shot a blistering 17-under 263 to take a five-shot lead over Arizona State at 22-under par. Southern California i in third at 16 under. Jamie Lovemark of USC and Jesper Kennegard of Arizona State are tied for individual honors at 9 under. Kennegard shot a 63 on Thursday while Lovemark fired a 65.
Final round action takes place on Friday.
