DAVIS, Calif. - Midfielders Amanda Shimp and Rachel Hawes each scored three goals while senior Kristen Slahor tied a school record with eight assists in leading Ohio State to a 18-7 win over UC Davis in non-conference women's collegiate lacrosse action at Aggie Stadium Friday.
The Aggies drop to 0-4 for the season. The Buckeyes, members of the American Lacrosse Conference, improve to 3-1 overall.
Senior Katie McMahon led UC Davis with three goals while sophomore Molly Lapolla added two. Freshman midfielder Jacklyn Taylor picked up a goal and assist for the Aggies.
A total of nine players scored goals for Ohio State, which led 12-2 at the half after outshooting its hosts by a 19-7 margin. Shimp put the Buckeyes on the board immediately after the opening draw, then Maghan Beaudreault scored two more goals to push the OSU lead to 3-0. Lapolla then converted an assist from Taylor in the seventh minute to break the offensives seal for UC Davis. Taylor later scored a goal of her own to bring the score to 4-2 in favor of the Buckeyes.
However, Slahor assisted on eight goals during a 10-0 Ohio State run into the second half. McMahon and Lapolla tacked on unassisted goals in the 37th and 38th minutes, respectively, but the Aggies never approached closer than 10. McMahon had the last two goals of the game to complete her hat trick.
Buckeye junior Kristen Gilwee earned the goalkeeping win, posting six saves against five goals in her 49 minutes of play. Counterpart Hilary Harkins had three saves in 52 minutes in the Aggie crease before giving way to freshman Alyssa Cranksa, who posted her first collegiate save in the final minute of the game.
Sophomore Molly Peterson earned four caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls for UC Davis. Senior Katie McGovern won a game-high four draw controls for the Aggies.
UC Davis returns to action on Monday in a 3 p.m. home game against Holy Cross.
