DAVIS, Calif. - Sophomore attacker Ashley Johnson scored five goals while junior Kathleen Rossetti posted three goals and five assists to lead Mount St. Mary's to a 16-10 win over UC Davis in a non-conference collegiate women's lacrosse game at Aggie Stadium Wednesday.

The Aggies fall to 0-3 for the season. The Mountaineers pick up their first win, moving to 1-2 overall.

Jacklyn Taylor scored her first hat trick to lead UC Davis on offense. In fact, eight of the Aggies' 10 goals were from freshmen: three from Taylor, two from Christina Corsa, plus one each by Gina Hoffmire, Rachael Martinez and Alyse Lasater. Seniors Katie McMahon and Katie McGovern had the balance of the scoring with one goal each. Corsa also had two assists for four total points.

Johnson and senior Rebecca Douglas each had two goals in the first half to help the Mount pull ahead to a 7-3 lead at the break, then Rossetti had a goal and assist early in the second half to stretch the advantage to 10-3. UC Davis managed to fight back to a 13-9 deficit, thanks in part to three successful eight-meter attempts. But Rossetti and Breana Waraksa teamped up on back-to-back goals in the 56th and 57th minutes, pushing the Mountaineer lead back to six goals.

Mount goalkeeper Jane Karger posted 10 saves against seven goals before giving way to sophomore Melanie Showers. Aggie goalie Hilary Harkins had seven saves to go with five ground balls and two interceptions.

Sophomore Molly Peterson highlighted the UC Davis defense with three caused turnovers and three ground balls.

The Aggies return to action on Friday for a 3 p.m. game against Ohio State.
