Conley Earns NCAA Qualifying Mark At Washington

Feb. 16, 2008

Husky Classic Complete Results.

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Kim Conley's time of 9 minutes, 30.77 seconds in the 3,000-meter run on Saturday at the Husky Classic not only lowered her indoor track and field school record but delivered UC Davis' first-ever Division I provisional qualifying mark for NCAA Championships.

Conley's mark was one of two school records for UC Davis which got another one from Ugo Eke who ran 25.48 in the 200 to move in front of Rochelle Carter who went 25.52 in 2004. The pair gave the Aggies two of their seven marks on the women's side that impacted the program's career leader list while Polly Gnepa finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdles for the men who had three events altered on their lists, including the triple jump by freshman Ray Green who was fourth.

Conley narrowly missed the provisional mark of 9:30.00 in the 3,000 when she competed at the Washington Indoor two weeks ago, finishing in 9:34.60 which was also the previous school record. However, she took advantage of her latest opportunity to take ninth in a highly competitive field and lower the Aggie standard further.

The NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held at Fayetteville, Ark., on Mar. 14-15.

Eke also picked up a school record with her performance in the 200 where she took 15th. Besides her time, the Aggies also had Willa Porter move into the top five all-time at UC Davis when she crossed in 25.98, giving her the No. 5 spot at UC Davis.

Of the Aggies' remaining showings that changed the career lists, three moved individuals into No. 2 positions hile the others improved already No. 3 positions. Lorin Scott went 9:56.06 to go to the runner-up spot in the 3,000, Brianna Larson is No. 2 after finishing the 5,000 in 17:22.13, and Tessa Fraser had a personal-best in the pole vault by going 3.72 meters (12-02.50), making her No. 2 all-time.

Jade Myle's triple jump of 12.14 meters (39-10.00) improved her No. 3 standing in that event at UC Davis.

On the men's side, Gnepa had the ninth-fastest time among 34 competitors during the prelim of the 60 hurdles and qualified for the final after going 8.19. In the final, he took sixth in 8.14 as Thomas Mack of Cal won the event in 7.94.

Three UC Davis marks impacted the men's career leaders list, including a pair from freshman Ray Green who did so in the long and triple jumps. His 6.69 meters (21-11.50) in the long jump puts him fourth all-time while his mark of 15.22 meters (49-11.25) in the triple jump is also good for No. 4. He finished fourth in the latter event against a tough field.

Jonathan Peterson moved into the No. 5 spot in the mile after his time of 4:16.03 pushed him past Phil Kilbridge whose mark of 9:14.17 in 1993 occupied that spot.

Conley will wait to see if her mark in the 3,000 is good enough to advance her to the national championships while the remainder of the team turns its attention to the outdoor portion of its season. The Aggies will begin that part by hosting the Blue-Gold Intrasquad next weekend.
