DAVIS, Calif. - Sophomore Paige Mintun scored a game-high 17 points, leading six Aggies in double figures, as the UC Davis women's basketball team rolled to a 118-44 exhibition women's basketball win over the Australian Showtime at The Pavilion on Thursday night.
The Aggies, playing their first game since finishinG 19-12 last year and advancing to the Women's National Invitational Tournament, also received 15 points from Haylee Donaghe and freshman Vicky Deely, 14 points from guard Genevieve Costello and 13 points from redshirt freshmen Lisa Peterson and Lauren Juric. Deely added 11 points for a double-double.
Serena Benevente led the Australian Showtime with 12 points while Jacqui Ball added 11.
UC Davis took a big lead early in the game, going up 15-2 less than three minutes in and then extending the advantage to 52-24 at halftime. The Aggies, who made 8 of 11 three-point attempts in the second half, outscored their visitors 66-20 after the break, shooting 68 percent over the final 20 minutes.
UC Davis head coach Sandy Simpson was pleased with his team's debut performance, especially with its decision-making.
"We made good decisions on when to push the break and when to pull back and run the offense," he said.
The Aggies shot 58 percent from the field, including making 13 of 24 (54 percent) from beyond the three-point stripe. Led by Deely's 11 rebounds and 10 from freshman Kasey Riecks, UC Davis dominated with a 55-21 advantage on the boards. It added 30 assists - freshman Hana Asano had eight - while Mintun and Donaghe had four steals apiece.
The Australian Showtime, in the midst of a seven-game tour of the west coast, shot just 31 percent frm the field and committed 25 turnovers.
UC Davis will play the second of two exhibition games when its hosts Sonoma State on Monday at 7 p.m.
