STOCKTON, Calif. - Led by a pair of 71's on Tuesday from Brent Booth and Ramie Sprinkling, the UC Davis men's golf team cut four strokes off its first-round score to shoot a 2-over 286 and move up to seventh place after two rounds of the Stockton Sports Commission Pacific Invitational.
Besides Booth and Sprinkling, the Aggies' score was helped by 1-over 72's from Nate Pistacchio and Austin Graham at the 6,757-yard Brookside Country Club Course.
UC Davis' 286 gave it a two-round total of 8-over 576, just one shot behind Big West Conference foe Cal State Northridge which is sixth. Rice shot a 1-under 283 for the second straight day to assume a four-shot lead over Oregon atop the team standings. Fresno State and Kansas State are tied for third, five shots off the pace.
Booth's 71 featured a trio of birdies over his first nine holes and put him in a tie for 13th at 1 over 143. Sprinkling's par round was also highlighted by three birdies and left him tied for 36th at 5 over going into the final round on Wednesday.
Pistacchio, looking for his third conecutive top-10 finish, is tied for eighth at 1 under after 36 holes, going 1 under over his first nine holes on Tuesday before finishing with a 72. Graham is tied for 20th at 3 over, battling back from being two shots over par after six holes to even after 13 and carding a 72 for the day. Freshman Tyler Raber cut two shots off his opening-round 78 to shoot 76 and is in 55th.
Pacific's T.J. Bordeaux and Michael Buttacavoli of Rice share the second-round lead at 5-under 137.
UC Davis will begin teeing off for the final round at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
