No. 9 Tritons Edge No. 11 Aggies In WWPA Semifinal

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior Adnan Jerkovich scored four goals to lead second-seeded UC San Diego to a 10-9 win over third-seeded UC Davis in a semifinal game of the Western Water Polo Association men's championship at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' Axelrod Pool Saturday afternoon.

The Aggies, ranked 11th nationally, fall to 12-15 for the season. The ninth-ranked Tritons improve to 20-10 overall.

Senior utility Adam Bennett scored two goals to lead a total of seven UC Davis scorers in the game. Seniors Grant Muenter, Philippe Chordas, Danny Driscoll and Paul Wilson each had one, as did juinor Jim Breen, sophomore Aaron Salit and freshman Ryan Hagens.

The Aggies led 6-5 shortly before the halftime break, but A.J. Kotanjian hit the equalizer for the Tritons just before the intermission. Junior Steven Donohoue and senior Adam Hunt each added two goals for UCSD, which outscored UC Davis by a 2-1 margin in the third period en route to the win.

UC Davis will face Santa Clara in the conference's third-place game at 2:15 p.m. Sunday.
