Final Stats

DAVIS, Calif -- Dayna Dumont and UC Davis used a first half blitz in defeating San Francisco, 3-1, Friday afternoon in women's soccer action at Aggie Soccer Stadium. The senior forward posted her first career hat trick as the Aggies stayed perfect at home this year. Dumont scored her first goal in the fourth minute, and the Aggies maintained their lead for the remainder of the game. UC Davis improved to 3-2-0 on the season while the Dons fell to 0-2-2.

Dumont's first goal was a blast from about 20 yards out in the middle that was set up by a pass from Gabina Bohlman. In the 23rd minute, Dumont sent a roller from the left side that just made it past the keeper on the right. Britnee Warmerdam picked up the assist on that goal, which gave UC Davis a 2-0 lead.

More than midway through the first half, UC Davis held a 7-0 advantage in shots before the Dons finally applied pressure of their own. Lauren Maris cut the deficit in half in the 31st minute when she received a pass from Fiona O'Sullivan on the right side and beat the keeper on a one-on-one, lifting a shot into the right side of the net.

Just seconds into the 42nd minute, Dumont added a third goal that developed much like her second score. After a pass from Marisa Boge in the middle, Dumont fed a roller that found its way into the right side of the goal. That gave UC Davis a 3-1 lead heading into the half.

In the second half, the UC Davis defense was able to keep the Dons at bay. USF, which trailed 9-6 in shots at the half, finished with 17 shots compared to the Aggies' 13. Megan Daws posted three of her four saves for UC Davis in the second half.

For Dumont, it was the first game of her career with more than one goal. She led the Aggies in goals as a junior and had one entering Friday's game.

"It was a great goal," said UC Davis head coach MaryClaire Robinson of Dumont's first score. "If you get one early, that changes the game. (USF) had a couple of chances where Daws came up big, and we had some great team defense. It was a good character win."

Along with Dumont's three shots, Megan Wall, Rochelle VanBuskirk and Jordan Martin each had two shots for the Aggies. Bohlman, Boge, Danielle Contro and Samantha Faber each had one.

Maris led the Dons with four shots, and Kristina Hall finished with three.

The Dons had five of the game's seven corner kicks, and the Aggies committed 21 fouls compared to the Dons' eight.

The game began a stretch where UC Davis plays seven of eight games at home. Next up for the Aggies is Sacramento State on Sunday, which entered Friday's night's game at Nevada with a perfect 3-0-0 record.

"We just have to take a deep breath, feel good about ourselves and get back to work," said Robinson. "Sac. State is having a great year. They're very tough and very physical, and they're going to put a lot of pressure on us."

Friday's win improved the Aggies to 3-0 at home. Sunday's game begins at noon at Aggie Soccer Stadium.
