MORAGA, Calif. - Senior midfielder Megan O'Connor scored four goals while freshman Molly Lapolla added three to lead UC Davis to a 15-6 win over Saint Mary's in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's lacrosse game at Saint Mary's Stadium Saturday.
The Aggies even their record to 8-8 and pick up their first conference win, improving to 1-4. The Gaels fall to 3-12 overall and 0-5 in MPSF play.
Senior Alden Monger and junior Katie McGovern each had two goals and two assists for UC Davis. Sophomore Patrice Clark also had a pair of goals while freshman Olivia Jarem and sophomore Eri Ichikawa each scored one to round out the Aggie scoring. Junior Hilary Harkins collected eight saves in the UC Davis crease.
Sophomore midfielder Lauren Frei had one goal and one assist to lead SMC, while junior Jen Utley led her team with two assists.
The Gaels took the initial lead as Spencer assisted Alana Burrough on the game's first goal. McGovern answered with an unassisted score three minutes later, but Abbie Coleman added another SMC goal at the 16:38 mark to regain the lead. However, Lapolla's goal at 12:50 began a 4-0 Aggie run, helping UC Davis take a 7-4 halftime lead.
Clark had both of her goals in a 6-1 Aggie onslaught during the first eight minutes after the break, stretching the lead to 13-5. Gael reserve goalie Sara Jo Rodriguez stepped in relief for the last 17 minutes, posting four saves and calming the UC Davis offense down to just two goals in the final stretch.
The Aggies host the six-team MPSF Championships at Aggie Stadium from May 4-6.
