April 1, 2007

Box Score

DAVIS, Calif. - Sophomore Patrice Clark scored five first-half goals to lead UC Davis to a 17-5 win over Saint Mary's in a non-conference women's lacrosse game at the new Aggie Stadium on Sunday. The victory was the first-ever athletics event held at the new multi-use stadium on the southwest corner of campus. Women's lacrosse previously played at Aggie Field, sharing the facility with the men's and women's soccer teams.

The Aggies improve to 6-5 with the win. The Gaels fall to 2-7 overall. The two teams will meet against on April 28 for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation matchup.

Sophomore midfielder Katie McGovern added four goals to support UC Davis offensively. Senior Megan O'Connor scored three goals with four assists for seven total points. Senior Alden Monger also had four assists, including three straight before the halftime break.

For SMC, sophomores Dana Elfvin and Sonja Kapusta each had two goals while Alex Oetken provided a pair of assists.

The Aggies opened with a 5-0 lead, starting with Clark's goal just 3:28 into the game. The Aggies tacked on the fourth and fifth goal within 13 seconds of each other, when O'Connor connected on an unassisted drive to the cage at 13:15, won the ensuing draw, then assisted freshman Olivia Jarem for another score at 13:28.

Elfvin briefly broke up the UC Davis scoring rally, converting Jen Utley's assist for a Gael goal at 14:42. However, Monger posted the first of three straight assists less than 90 seconds later, igniting another 5-0 Aggie run. UC Davis led 11-3 at the halftime break, holding a 26-10 advantage in shots.

The Aggies had yet another 5-0 scoring run that spanned the intermission, concluding with back-to-back goals by McGovern at the 42:59 and 45:42 marks to bring the score to 15-3.

In addition to her offensive contributions, O'Connor matched teammate Tarryn Furr with three ground balls, won three draw controls and forced a pair of Gael turnovers. Freshman Molly Lapolla led all players with five draw controls. Junior goalkeeper Hilary Harkins posted 11 saves against just five goals in the UC Davis crease.

UC Davis returns to action on April 8 for an MPSF game against Denver.
