March 26, 2007

Box Score

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Sophomore attacker Sara MacIntyre scored three goals with two assists to lead Lehigh to a 11-10 win over UC Davis in a non-conference women's lacrosse game at the Ulrich Sports Complex Monday afternoon. MacIntyre's third goal proved to be the game-winner in a contest that featured eight straight ties through the first 50 minutes of play.

The Aggies fall to 4-5 overall. The Mountain Hawks, members of the Patriot League, improve to 3-5 for the year.

Freshman Olivia Jarem scored three goals for UC Davis, while sophomore Patrice Clark, junior Katie McGovern and senior Jen Sanderson each added two goals and two assists.

Lehigh freshman Inneke Carmola led all players with four goals. Senior midfielder Amy Chamberlain chipped in a goal and two assists for the Hawks.

Neither team wasted time putting numbers in the scoring column. Clark scored at the 1:56 mark, scooping the rebound of a Kelsy Ferris save, then sending it home for the game's first goal. Lehigh answered within a minute as Carmola's successful eight-meter shot completed a three-shot threat on the Aggie cage. Kara Chalanick gave the Hawks its first lead on the ensuing draw, assisting Christy Smith for a goal at the 3:26 mark. But Clark responded with an assist to Jarem, tying the score at 2-2 just 5:17 into the contest.

McGovern had Aggie assists to Clark and senior Megan O'Connor in a flurry of goals down the final stretch of the first half, as both teams went into the halftime break locked in a 5-5 tie.

Similarly in the second half, Christy Smith and Olivia Jarem traded goals in the opening two minutes after the break to retie the score at 6-6. Jarem completed her hat trick in the 34th minute to send UC Davis up by 7-6, but MacIntyre hit her eight-meter attempt to tie the game for a seventh time. Inneke Carmola scored an unassisted goal at the 36:25 mark to give the Mountain Hawks an 8-7 lead, then Sanderson and McGovern teamed up for another equalizer just 45 seconds later.

MacIntyre finally gave Lehigh the lead for good, converting Chamberlain's assist with 9:10 remaining in the game. Lissy King scored three minutes later to extend the advantage to two goals, the largest of the game by either team.

Sanderson scored the Aggies' last two goals of the game, the second of which cut the deficit to 11-10 with less than four minutes left. The senior defender had a chance to tie the contest when she was awarded a free-position attempt with 2:49, but Ferris earned the save and Lehigh was able to protect its lead for the duration.

UC Davis continues its East Coast trip with a game at Bucknell on Wednesday.
