DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis head men's soccer coach Dwayne Shaffer has announced the signing of Nathan Jarman to a National Letter of Intent. Jarman, a 6-2, 175 defender from San Diego, becomes the seventh student-athlete to commit to the Aggies during the signing period.
As a senior at Poway High School, Jarman received First-Team All-Palomar League honors and was a First-Team All-CIF selection. He helped lead the Titans to league championships as a junior and senior. Jarman was also instrumental in leading his PQ Premier U-18 club team to a State Cup title in 2006. The future Aggie has also put together a stellar prep volleyball career, garning all-league honors as well as leading his club team to a second place finish at the 2004 Junior Olympics. While there, he was named to the All-Tournament Team and received All-America honors.
"We are very excited to have Nathan join our program," said Shaffer. "We needed to add an athletic central defender with speed, and he certainly fills that need. His athleticism caught our attention throughout the recruiting process."
"Nathan is a true left-footed player so he is also capable of playing as a left back," added Shaffer. "He had a great high school career, and I believe his best soccer is in front of him."
Last month, Shaffer announced the signing of six future Aggies. The list includes Christopher Beville (5-11, 175, MF, Danville, Calif./ Monte Vista HS), Stephen Cunningham (6-2, 170, F/MF, Bakersfield, Calif./Liberty HS), Julian Godinez (5-9, 150, MF, Hercules, Calif./Hercules Middle HS), Miles Hadley (6-4, 165, MF/D, Oakland, Calif./St. Mary's College HS), Ryan McCowan (6-2, 175, GK, Lafayette, Calif./Acalanes HS), Ronald Smith (6-4, 190, GK, Alpine, Calif./Granite Hills HS).
This fall, UC Davis will begin its first season as a member of the Big West Conference. The Aggies are coming off a 9-7-2 campaign in 2006 in which they went 7-3-2 against their future Big West competition.
