WAIKOLA, Hawaii - Freshman Phil Huffman posted a 3-under par 67 on Friday, the Aggies' lowest score of the 54-hole tournament, as the UC Davis men's golf team shot a final-round team score of 5-under 275 to finish ninth place at the Hawaii-Hilo Intercollegiate, played at the 6,738-yard Waikoloa Village Golf Club.

Huffman led UC Davis by finishing in a tie for 18th in the individual standings. UC Davis, which was in 11th place heading into Friday's final round, jumped two spots to earn its second top-10 showing at the tournament in the past four years. Several ranked programs competed in the 18-team event, including No. 2 Stanford, No. 3 Oklahoma State and No. 8 USC, making this the Aggies' toughest field this season.

Stanford made up four shots on second-round leader Oklahoma State, catching the Cowboys on the final day and then winning the tournament in a playoff. The Cardinal shot 266 on Friday, finishing at 37-under for the three-day event while Oklahoma State shot 270 over the final 18 holes to also finish at 803.

Arizona State was third at 24-under, Georgia Tech was fourth at 21-under and USC took fifth at 19 under par. UC Davis had its second-lowest round of the tournament on Friday, scoring 275 to place ninth at 11-under 829. The Aggies finished four shots ahead of both 30th-ranked Texas Tech and No. 78 Oregon. UC Davis also placed in front of No. 49 Colorado, which was 12th at the event.

Huffman posted his third consecutive sub-70 round for the Aggies this week, following his pair of 69's in the first two rounds with a team-best 67 on Friday. He finished in a tie for 18th place at 5-under after beginning the day tied for 35th. Senior Louie Bishop, who scored par or better in 11 of 12 career rounds at the annual Hawaii tournament, shot a 2-under 68 on Friday, tying for 26th at four shots under par.

Juniors Nate Pistacchio and Matt Marshall had matching 70's on Friday with Pistacchio tying for 35th at 2-under and Marshall tying for 43rd at even. Gregg Button tied for 84th after shooting 75 on Friday.

UC Davis tied for seventh in 2004 for its most recent top-10 finish at the tournament. The Aggies are off until competing in the Farms Intercollegiate at Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., on Mar. 5-6.
