ROSEVILLE, Calif. - The UC Davis men's swimming team scored 361 points on the final day of the Pacific Invitational at the Roseville Aquatics Complex to finish third while the women's squad tallied 359 combined points during both days of the event to finish fifth overall.

Cal swept the titles on both sides as their men scored 1,435.50 to finish ahead of host Pacific while the women managed 808.50 to beat out Oregon State.

Senior Russell Taylor led the men's team with a total of three top five individual finishes for a team-high point total of 47. He also swam the opening legs for the 400-yard freestyle and 800 free relay teams that combined to score an additional 60 points. Taylor finished 3rd in the 200 individual medley (1:54.91), 3rd in the 200 breaststroke (2:07.11) and 4th in the 100 butterfly (52.15).

Sophomore Daniel Donnelly and freshman Jimmy Fong tied Taylor with the best overall finish for an Aggie as they both had 3rd-place finishes in their respective events. Donnelly's came in the 200 fly with a time of 1:55.46 while Fong's was in the 200 backstroke (1:55.75). Fong added to his collegiate-best night with a 5th-palce showing in the 100 back (53.05) and 11th-place finish in the 100 fly (54.25). Donnelly also scored in the 500 free.

Junior Alex Arbios also had two top-10 finishes as he placed 6th in the 500 free (4:48.19) and 7th in the 200 fly (2:00.08) to score 25 points.

For the women, junior transfer Mary Struempf was the only Aggie to score in multiple events as she was the team's top scorer in both 100 (2:09.74) and 200 (59.09) fly events. Freshman Linda Hermann had the best overall finish for the women with her 5th-place time of 52.98 in the 100 free.

The women also scored a total of 56 points during the opening 200 free relay as they had the 5th and 7th place teams.

Both teams will take next week off to focus on training. The women return to action in two weeks at the Big West Shootout while the men next compete at the Speedo Cup in three weeks.
