ROSEVILLE, Calif. - UC Davis freshmen Amanda Holman, Linda Hermann and Tyler Ring, and sophomore Heidi Kucera each scored in a team-high three events to lead the Aggies to a point total of 249 and a 4th-place showing after the first day of the Pacific Invitational swimming meet at the Roseville Aquatics Complex Friday afternoon.
Oregon State holds the overall lead after the first day of the two-day invitational with a point total of 349.50. Nevada sits second overall with 323.50 points while host Pacific is third with 322 points.
The Aggies managed to score a total of 114 points in the 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay as they had a couple of scoring teams in each event.
Competing in off events during the first day, the Aggies had a total of eight swimmers gain points in multiple events. Holman, Kucera, Hermann and Ring were the only UC Davis swimmers to score in three separate events.
Holman was the team's top finisher in the 50 free as her time of 24.70 placed her fifth overall, which was the best overall finish by an Aggie. She also swam the final leg in the Aggies' top-finishing 200 medley (4th, 1:48.97) and 400 free (3rd, 3:35.97) relay teams.
Kucera scored in the 200 and 100 free with finishes of 5th (1:54.18) and 7th (1:06.30), respectively, while also swimming the opening leg of the second 400 free relay team. Her 5th-place finish in the 200 free matched Holman for the best individual UC Davis finish.
Hermann also had two top-10 individual finishes as she placed 10th in the 50 free (25:06) and 8th in the 100 free (1:54.38). Her third scoring event was as a member of the 400 free relay team.
Ring scored in two individual events as well as the 400 free relay. She was the 13th-place finisher and No. 2 UC Davis scorer in both the 200 free and 50 free.
Senior Ashley Cayford had one of the best overall finishes as her time of 1:06.17 in the 100 free was good for 6th place. She was also one of five Aggies to score points in two events as she also swam in the 400 free relay.
Freshman Michelle Camburn had the Aggies' best finish of 11th in the 400-yard individual medley (4:41.79) and also scored in the 1,650 free. Sophomore Kathryn Jovino was the team's best finisher in that event as she placed 8th in 18:00.67.
Seniors Jennifer Ginsberg (200 medley relay, 400 free relay) and Jill Olson (50 free, 400 free relay), and junior Emily Medved (200 medley relay, 400 free relay) were the other two UC Davis swimmers to score in at least two events.
The women will be joined by the men's team tomorrow morning on the final day of the two-day invite.
