MODESTO, Calif. - Freshman Matthew Swarbrick threw the discus 54.12 meters, or 177 feet, seven inches, to finish ninth in the event, highlighting Aggie track and field action at the Coca-Cola Modesto Relays Saturday.
Swarbrick's throw placed him third among the collegiate entrants in the event. Brigham Young's Niklas Arrhenius was second overall at 61.97m (203-4), while Cal's Nate Rolfe finished one place ahead at 55.56m (182-3). The UC Davis freshman's bestthrow of the year was 54.46m (178-8), set in the Aggie-Bulldog dual on April 29.
UC Davis sent two athletes to the acclaimed meet. Tolulope Wusu was fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 14.66m (48-1.25). Wusu went 14.91m (48-11) in the season-opening meet at UC Irvine to establish his season best. He was the only collegiate entrant in the event at Modesto.
The men's and women's track and field teams conclude their 2006 season at the NCAA Division I Independent Championships at Nothern Colorado from May 11-13.
