EUGENE, Ore. - Junior attacker Liz Reifsnyder scored two goals early in the second half to help third-seeded California pull away from a 4-4 halftime battle en route to a 10-6 win over UC Davis in the second quarterfinal game of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's lacrosse championships at Oregon's Pape Field Friday evening.
The Aggies drop to 8-9 for the season. The Golden Bears improve to 8-9.
Freshman Patrice Clark led UC Davis with three goals, including the equalizer with 1:34 remaining in the first half that sent the two teams into the intermission in a 4-4 deadlock. Juniors Megan O'Connor and Alden Monger and sophomore Katie McGovern each added one goal. O'Connor also had the Aggies' lone assist, setting up McGovern in the second minute for the contest's first goal.
Aggie sophomore goalie Hilary Harkins posted 12 saves against 10 Cal goals. Defender Ranessa Santos paced the UC Davis backfield with three ground balls and a pair of steals.
Senior Leanne Zilioli and junior Laura Cavallo each scored three goals to lead Cal. The Golden Bears enjoyed a 26-15 shooting edge and won a whopping 15 of the 18 draws.
UC Davis will face Saint Mary's in the tournament's consolation game at noon Saturday.
