STANFORD, Calif. - Senior attacker Megan Burker scored six goals with an assist to lead 20th-ranked Stanford to a 20-6 win over UC Davis in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's lacrosse action at Maloney Field Monday. Teammates Daphne Patterson and Sarah Bach also posted hat tricks, while Aggie freshman Eri Ichikawa matched that total to lead the visitors.
UC Davis evens its record at 6-6 for the year, and remains winless at 0-4 in MPSF play. The Cardinal improve to 6-5 overall, and 3-1 in conference games.
Stanford scored the first five goals of the game before Ichikawa put the Aggies on the scoreboard in the 19th minute. The Cardinal led 9-3 at the break, then moved ahead to 10-3 when Burker hit her fifth goal of the game less than a minute into the second half. UC Davis picked up goals by Ichikawa and freshman Patrice Clark to close the gap to 10-5, but Stanford answered with three straight goals and finished the game on a 7-0 run through the final 15 minutes of play.
The 20 goals allowed ties an Aggie school record, first set earlier this season in a MPSF contest at Denver.
The Cardinal outshot UC Davis by a 30-17 margin, and enjoyed the advantage in ground balls (25 to 12), draw controls (18 to 10) and turnovers (19 to 24).
Clark finished with two goals for the game. Aggie junior Katie McMahon had a goal and a team-leading two assists. Monday's game was originally scheduled for March 3, but rain-induced field conditions forced a postponement of more than a month.
UC Davis returns to action Saturday with a non-conference game at Siena, then travels even farther east to face Quinnipiac on Monday.
