DAVIS, Calif. - Junior midfielder Megan O'Connor scored five goals while freshman Patrice Clark added three goals and an assist to lead UC Davis to an 18-5 win over Long Island University in non-conference women's collegiate lacrosse action at Aggie Field Monday.
The Aggies improve to 2-3 overall. The Blackbirds, members of the Northeast Conference, fall to 0-3 for the season.
Clark scored the first two goals of the game, first on an unassisted drive at the 1:06 mark then another on an assist from Megan Miller at 2:33. LIU's Nichole Lopez put her team on the board at 4:25 when she converted a free-position opportunity, then UC Davis freshman Eri Ichikawa hit an eight-meter attempt of her own at 5:42 to launch a stretch of eight unanswered Aggie goals.
The Aggies led 10-2 at the halftime break, as Amy Rizzo set up LIU teammate Chrissie Carleton for a goal with 48 seconds remaining before the intermission. UC Davis stretched out its lead to 14-2 within the first 11 minutes of the second half, then to 17-3 with 11:16 remaining in the game.
Ichikawa, junior Katie McMahon and sophomore Katie McGovern each added two goals for UC Davis. Sophomore goalkeeper Hilary Harkins posted eight saves in net. Senior Nicole Frantz had five ground balls and two caused turnovers on the defensive end.
Lopez led the Blackbirds with two goals, whille Rizzo had a goal and three assists for four total points. Amanda Childress and Kimberly Campbell split time in the LIU cage. Childress had one save against seven goals in the first 15:35 of play, then Campbell had six saves in relief.
UC Davis returns to action on Wednesday against Bucknell. The Bison lost to Columbia University by a 15-4 final in a neutral-site game at Aggie Field in the day's opener.
