RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. -- Louie Bishop is tied for fourth place after shooting an opening-round score of 1-under par 71 on Monday, helping UC Davis tie for fifth after 18 holes of the 2006 Calloway Golf Invitational, being hosted by the University of San Diego at the The Farms Golf Club.
Play in the 54-hole tournament was suspended during the second round due to darkness and will be resumed on Tuesday morning.
UC Davis shot a team score of 11-over 299 and is tied for fifth with San Jose State, just seven shots behind leader San Diego State. The Aztecs have a four-shot advantage over second-place Cal and are in front of Saint Mary's and Loyola Marymount by five. The host Toreros sit just one shot back of the Aggies in seventh while UC Santa Barbara, Long Beach State and Colorado State are tied for eighth place at 303 in the 16-team tournament.
Jason D'Amore of Loyolo Marymount posted a 6-under 66 in the first round and has a three-shot lead over Andrew Scott of San Diego State. Bishop is knotted with Kevin Nabbefeld of San Jose State for fourth after firing a 71. Bishop shot a 37 over the front nine and had a 34 on the back.
Matt Muscara is another Aggie in the top 20 after shooting 75 on Monday and tying for 18th. Ramie Sprinkling is tied for 33rd after carding a 76, Erik Hill is tied for 38th a shot back and Nate Pistacchio is tied for 52nd after a 79.
The second round will be completed on Tuesday morning before third round competition begins.
