WAIKOLOA, Hawaii - The UC Davis men's golf team fired a team-score of 306 on Thursday afternoon, falling four spots to 17th after 36 holes of the Hawaii-Hilo Intercollegiate, being played at the par 71, 6,777-yard Waikoloa Village Golf Course.
The Aggies' Louie Bishop, who opened the tournament on Wednesday with a 3-under 68, followed that with a 2-over 73 in the second round and is tied for 18th place in the individual standings at 1-under 141.
The top three teams remained the same with Georgia Tech stretching its early four-shot lead to 14 strokes over Oklahoma State. The Yellow Jackets, at 21-under par, are 18 shots in front of third-place USC. Those are the only three teams under par after 17 teams scored at least par Wednesday.
UC Davis, which had a 1-under 283 on Wednesday, had a 306 on Thursday and is at 21-over 589. The Aggies are three shots behind host Hawaii-Hilo and four shots in front of Oregon State in the 21-team tournament.
Cameron Tringale of Georgia Tech, a day after shooting 65, came back to fire a 67 on Thursday and took the lead from Pablo Martin of Oklahoma State. Tringale is at 10-under 132, two shots in front of Martin heading into Friday's final round. More than half the field fired at least par Wednesday but that number has dwindled to just 27 after conditions tightened on Thursday.
Bishop is the lone Aggie in the top 40. Matt Muscara finished with a 75 on Thursday and is tied for 43rd at 146, Nate Pistacchio and Ramie Sprinkling each carded 79's and are tied for 79th and 87th, respectively, while Erik Hill had an 83 to complete the Aggies' quintet.
Players will tee off at 8 a.m. (PST) Friday for the final round.
